IKO Roof Replacement in Austin: What to Know First
IKO roof replacement in Austin typically runs $11,500 – $19,800 for a full tear-off and re-shingle on a standard 2,200-square-foot home, depending on which IKO line you choose and what we find under the old shingles. Most IKO replacements take two to four days from tear-off to final cleanup, and our written price is in your hands before a single nail comes out of the bag. We’re an independent IKO service provider – not an IKO-authorized dealer – which means we tell you the truth about which IKO products hold up in central Texas heat and which ones you might want to skip. If you own a home with IKO shingles and you’re seeing granule loss in your gutters, curling at the eaves, or splits running through the mat, call (254) 540-7345. Greg Holloway and our Austin crew will give you a straight number before any work starts.
How IKO Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- Cambridge granule loss along south-facing slopes. IKO’s Cambridge line uses a mat that’s lighter than some competitors, and Austin’s relentless UV exposure accelerates asphalt oxidation on unshaded roof planes. You’ll notice black grit in gutters and bald patches where the fiberglass base is starting to show through. Fix: full slope replacement with proper underlayment, not a patch job that’ll fail again next summer.
- Marathon curling at the eaves. IKO’s Marathon laminate is a decent shingle, but the adhesive strip can let go early under Austin’s freeze-thaw cycles, especially on homes where attic ventilation was never upgraded from the original build. Curled shingle tabs catch wind and tear. Fix: decking inspection, ventilation correction if needed, and re-shingling with a sealant rated for high heat.
- RoofTop ridge cap splitting. We see it most often on IKO’s RoofTop series installed between 2010 and 2016. The ridge cap material for that era wasn’t reinforced for Texas storm expansion, and you get hairline splits along the cap line that let moisture into the ridge beam. Fix: ridge cap replacement with a reinforced product, plus a full ridge vent check while we’re up there.
- Nail-pop failures from trampled decking. This one isn’t always the shingle’s fault. Austin’s earlier building booms left plenty of homes with 3/8-inch decking that flexes underfoot, and IKO’s fiberglass mat shows nail pops faster than heavier mats when the decking moves. You’ll see raised bumps in neat grid patterns after a storm. Fix: decking replacement in affected zones before the new IKO or alternative shingle goes down.
- Fungal streaking on shaded IKO shingles. North-facing slopes under Austin’s live oaks and pecans hold moisture, and IKO’s mat is more hospitable to the algae that causes dark streaking than some antimicrobial-treated competitors. It looks worse than it is, but if the mat itself has been wet for years, replacement is the honest call. Fix: slope replacement with algae-resistant shingles and – if you want to keep the IKO look – a Cambridge or Dynasty line with copper granule treatment.

Our IKO Roof Replacement Process
- 1
The roof reading. Greg Holloway walks every slope, checks the decking from the attic side where accessible, and measures ventilation. You get a written diagnosis with photos – not a sales pitch.
- 2
The material decision. We bring samples of IKO Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic lines, plus comparable options from GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral. If IKO is the right call for your roof’s pitch and exposure, we say so. If it isn’t, we say that too.
- 3
The written price. Before any work starts, you have a line-item quote in your hand. Decking work, drip edge, underlayment, flashing, ridge cap – everything itemized. That number doesn’t move unless you change the scope.
- 4
Tear-off and deck inspection. We strip to the decking and check for soft spots, rot, and spacing problems. If decking replacement is needed, the price for that was already in your quote.
- 5
Underlayment, flashing, and shingle install. We use high-temperature-rated underlayment suited to Austin summers, replace drip edge and flashing rather than caulking over old metal, and install the IKO line you approved with manufacturer-recommended nailing patterns.
- 6
Cleanup and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. We magnet-sweep the yard for nails, run the magnet around the perimeter twice, and hand you a written guarantee before the crew pulls away. If anything isn’t right inside a full year, we come back and make it right at no charge.

AfterWhat IKO Roof Replacement Costs in Austin
Here’s what our Austin customers actually pay for IKO roof replacement, based on recent jobs. These are full tear-off and re-shingle numbers, including standard 30# or synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, and ridge cap:
- IKO Cambridge on a 1,500 – 1,800 sq ft single-story: $8,900 – $12,400
- IKO Dynasty on a 2,000 – 2,400 sq ft two-story: $12,800 – $16,500
- IKO Nordic on a 2,400 – 3,000 sq ft home with steep slopes: $16,000 – $21,500
- Decking replacement (when needed): $2.50 – $3.75 per square foot, typically 4 – 10 sheets on an Austin home
- Flashing replacement (full perimeter, valleys, and penetrations): $650 – $1,200 depending on chimney count and vent locations
What moves the price: roof pitch, number of penetrations, decking condition, and whether you want IKO’s standard 30-year Cambridge or the heavier Dynasty line. We don’t bid low and add change orders later. Call (254) 540-7345 and we’ll send Greg out to read your roof and give you the real number.
Why Austin Homeowners Call Tilehurst Roofing Austin for IKO Work
Tilehurst Roofing Austin is part of the Kingswell family of roofing companies, founded in 2000, and we built our Austin presence the same way our other locations run: written price before any work starts, a live person on the phone 24 hours a day, and a guarantee that’s printed and handed to you before the crew leaves. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed, and they know IKO products well enough to tell you honestly whether your failing Cambridge slope is a materials problem, a ventilation problem, or a decking problem – and what each one costs to fix. Since we also work with GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral, you’re getting a straight recommendation about what belongs on your roof, not what we happen to have stacked in the warehouse. Tell me the roof, I’ll tell you the price – no surprises once we’re up there.
FAQs
No. If you are past the original warranty period or the warranty was tied to the original installer and that company no longer exists, replacing the shingles doesn’t create a legal issue. If your IKO shingles are under active warranty and failing, we will document everything in writing so you can pursue a claim with IKO directly. We are an independent provider, not an IKO-authorized contractor, so we won’t handle the claim for you – but we will give you the documentation IKO asks for.
Yes. IKO Cambridge, Dynasty, and Nordic are readily available through Austin-area distributors, and lead times are typically three to five days. That said, for a full replacement, we recommend reviewing comparable options from GAF, Owens Corning, or CertainTeed before committing to IKO again – especially if your original IKO shingles failed early. Call (254) 540-7345 and we’ll walk you through the differences with samples in hand.
Most IKO roof replacements take two to four days, depending on roof size, pitch, and whether decking replacement is needed. Austin’s storm season can compress schedules, but we give you a written window and show up in it. Cleanup is part of the job, not an extra – we magnet-sweep the yard twice before we leave.
Sometimes, but honestly, on an IKO roof that’s losing granules and curling at the eaves, repairs tend to be a short-term patch on a longer-term problem. If your roof is under 12 years old and the damage is isolated to one slope, a targeted slope replacement may make sense and costs less than a full roof. Greg will tell you plainly which one your roof actually needs. Estimates are free – call (254) 540-7345.
Yes. Austin requires permits for roof replacement, and we pull every permit and coordinate the inspection. The permit cost is included in your written quote, not added at the end. If the inspector flags anything, we correct it and reinspect at no additional cost to you.
