Why Austin Homeowners Choose GAF Roofing
We provide independent GAF roofing service in Austin, TX, covering everything from Timberline HDZ leak repairs to full Grand Sequoia tear-offs and EverGuard TPO membrane work. We’re not GAF corporate and we’re not an authorized dealer. We’re a local crew that has spent years on Austin roofs, and we know how GAF products behave when the Hill Country sun, hail, and wind get hold of them. Most homeowners call us because they want a straight answer about their GAF roof and a written price before they commit to anything. You can reach us at (254) 540-7345.
Why Trust Tilehurst Roofing Austin for Your GAF Roofing?
We work almost exclusively on GAF asphalt shingle systems across Austin’s hill-country heat cycles. That matters because GAF products have specific fastening patterns, specific underlayment requirements, and specific failure points that generic roofers miss. Our crews know every material spec and fastening detail that determines whether a GAF roof survives Austin’s 50-degree daily temperature swings. Greg Holloway, who leads our Austin operation, came up through the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent years reading roofs the way other people read weather reports. When Greg looks at a Timberline HDZ roof off Southwest Parkway, he’s looking for granule loss patterns, nail placement, and ridge cap stress. Not just “damage.”
Every GAF service visit starts the same way: a written price before any work begins, and a written guarantee on every repair before the crew leaves. That’s the Kingswell Way, and we don’t skip it just because a homeowner is in a hurry. We’re independently owned and operated, which means we answer to you, not to a manufacturer’s sales quota. A live person answers our phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call at 9 p.m. on a Sunday after a storm rolls through, you’ll get a human.

Common GAF Roofing Problems We Fix in Austin
Here’s what we actually see on GAF roofs in this city. These aren’t hypotheticals pulled from a spec sheet. They’re field notes.
- Timberline HDZ granule loss on south-facing slopes. The UV load on a south-facing Austin roof is brutal. Timberline HDZ shingles have a thick granule layer, but after several summers of direct exposure, we see premature granule adhesion failure on slopes that catch full sun from noon to seven. The shingle doesn’t fail structurally, but the protective surface thins, and the mat starts to weather. That’s when leaks follow.
- GAF Ridge Cap shingles cracking at the folded seam. Austin’s daily thermal swings, especially in spring, expand and contract ridge caps constantly. Rubberized GAF ridge cap material handles this better than rigid alternatives, but we still see hairline cracks at the fold on older installations. Once water gets into that seam, it travels down along the ridge vent and shows up as ceiling stains nowhere near the actual gap.
- EverGuard TPO membrane lifting at parapet flashings. This is a heat-welding failure. TPO needs a clean, hot weld to bond to flashing metal. We see poorly welded seams pull away from parapet walls on commercial and flat-roof sections around Austin, especially after a summer heat cycle loosens the bond. When it pulls, water runs straight down the wall and into the decking.
- Grand Sequoia wind uplift tears. North Austin storm fronts bring sudden, violent gusts. Grand Sequoia is a heavyweight shingle, but if the original install skipped enough nails or used too short a nail, the wind gets under the shingle edge and tears it upward. We see this most often on the windward slope facing northwest.
- Flashing failures around chimneys and skylights. This isn’t GAF-specific, but on GAF systems in Austin we see it constantly. The original flashing was often installed with the old roof and simply not replaced when the shingles were. Ten years later, the step flashing corrodes, the sealant fails, and the leak starts. We replace flashing as its own job, not as an afterthought tacked onto a shingle repair.
GAF Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
For GAF repairs, we use genuine GAF ridge caps, starter strips, and accessories when they’re the best fit for the system. That means matching the shingle, matching the cap profile, and keeping the warranty story clean. We also stock industry-standard 30# felt and synthetic underlayments that meet or exceed GAF’s published specs. Sometimes the aftermarket underlayment is the better product. We’ll tell you that plainly.
Here’s our repair-versus-replace rule: if a GAF roof is less than eight years old and the failure is localized, we repair. We’ll replace the damaged shingles, re-bed the flashing, or patch the TPO seam and send you a written guarantee for that repair. Beyond eight years, or when multiple slopes are shedding granules, we usually recommend full replacement. Chasing individual shingles on a dying roof is how you end up paying for a new roof one square at a time. Call (254) 540-7345 if you want an honest read on where your roof sits.
Our GAF Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. Greg or one of our senior techs walks the roof and documents every finding. We check granule adhesion, nail patterns, flashing condition, and the underside of ridge caps. You get a written summary with photos.
- 2
Written price. Before a single nail comes out of the bag, you get a line-item price on paper. That price doesn’t change once we’re on the roof. If we find hidden decking damage, we show you the photo and get your sign-off before touching it.
- 3
Repair or install. We use the right GAF materials for the system, plus our own underlayment stock where it serves the roof better. Background-checked, uniformed technicians do the work. You’ll know exactly who is on your roof.
- 4
Water test and inspection. After the work, we test the repaired area and walk the slope. We’re looking for loose nails, misaligned caps, and any irregularity that could catch wind or water.
- 5
Written guarantee. Every repair gets a written guarantee before the crew leaves. Not mailed later. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers a full year of accountability. If that repair fails inside the year, we return at no charge.

AfterGAF Products We Service & Install in Austin
We work across GAF’s core roofing lines: Timberline HDZ for standard asphalt shingle streets in neighborhoods like Allandale and Pflugerville, Grand Sequoia for homeowners who want the heavyweight impact story, Glenwood for steep historic pitches where the cedar-shake look matters in districts like Old West Austin, and EverGuard TPO for flat and low-slope sections on modern custom builds. We also stock the accessory line that actually matters day-to-day: ridge caps, starter strips, and GAF-matched sealants.
Beyond GAF, we install and service systems from six other manufacturers: CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral. Sometimes the best roof for an Austin home isn’t a GAF. We’ll tell you when it isn’t, because tying ourselves to a single manufacturer would be good for nobody but the manufacturer.
We Also Service These Brands
GAF is our most common service call, but we’re not single-brand dependent. We regularly service and install Owens Corning and CertainTeed systems across Austin, plus the other brands we carry. The product should fit the home and the homeowner’s budget, not just what happens to be in our truck. Our multi-brand position means we can tell you the truth about GAF without worrying about losing a franchise.
FAQs – GAF Roofing Service in Austin
No. We are an independent GAF service provider, not an authorized dealer or a GAF corporate entity. That independence matters: we can recommend a repair over a replacement without a manufacturer’s sales incentive in the room. We work on GAF systems because they’re common in Austin and we know them deeply, not because anyone requires us to sell them.
That’s UV degradation. Your south-facing slope takes the full brunt of the Austin summer sun, from roughly 11 a.m. until dark. The granule layer on the shingle absorbs and deflects UV radiation, but after enough scorching seasons, the asphalt bond holding the granules begins to fail. You’ll see bare patches, then the fiberglass mat itself starts to weather. Once you’re seeing mat, the shingle is near the end of its life. Call (254) 540-7345 and we’ll tell you whether it’s a repair situation or a replacement slope.
Sometimes. GAF keeps a wide color catalog, and most current Timberline and Grand Sequoia colors have direct matches still in production. The problem is old shingles fade. Even a perfectly matched new shingle will read slightly different against twenty years of Austin sun on the surrounding slope. We’ll show you the closest match and tell you honestly whether a patch will look right or whether a larger section replacement makes more sense. For exact pricing, call (254) 540-7345 with your shingle color and we’ll give you a real number.
Bad heat welding, almost always. TPO membrane bonds to flashing metal with heat. If the installer didn’t get the weld hot enough, or welded onto dusty or damp metal, the bond is weak from day one. Austin’s heat cycle does its work over several summers: expansion and contraction pull at that weak weld until the membrane separates from the wall. Then water runs behind the TPO and into the structure. This is a repair we do regularly. Call (254) 540-7345 for a quote on TPO flashing work.
Often yes. Ridge cap cracks at the folded seam are usually a cap issue, not a slope issue. If the underlying shingles are still holding granules and showing good adhesion, we’ll re-bed those caps with new GAF matching caps and a synthetic underlayment patch. Last August, our tech pulled a ridge cap off a GAF Grand Sequoia roof near Zilker to find the underlying ridge vent had shrunk a full inch. The gap was pulling the cap shingles apart at the folded seam. We replaced the failed vent section, re-bedded the ridge caps, and used GAF matching caps so the repair disappeared into the existing line. That’s the difference between fixing the symptom and fixing the cause. Call (254) 540-7345 for a ridge cap inspection.
For GAF service in Round Rock and Austin, most asphalt-shingle patch jobs run $250 to $650 depending on the size of the area, the slope pitch, and whether we’re matching an existing shingle color. Full GAF Timberline HDZ replacements in Austin typically fall between $11,000 and $22,000 for an average 1,800 to 2,400 square foot roof, but every house is different. Grand Sequoia runs higher, and TPO work is priced by the square foot. The only way to get a real number is for us to walk the roof. Estimates are free, and the price we give you is the price you pay. Call (254) 540-7345 to schedule yours.
