How Tilehurst Roofing Was Brought to Austin

We didn’t start Tilehurst Roofing in Austin. The brand already existed, built on a simple idea that the Kingswell family put into writing: roofs done once, and done right. What we did, beginning back in 2000, was bring that idea to Austin and build a local team around it. Greg Holloway took on that job personally.

The reason was straightforward. Austin was growing fast, and roofers were everywhere, but too many homeowners were getting burned the same way. A price quoted over the phone that changed when the crew showed up. A repair that lasted one season and then leaked again with nobody answering the callback. A job site left littered with nails and torn shingle wrap. Greg had spent years watching that pattern play out across Travis County, and when the opportunity came to open the Austin branch of Tilehurst Roofing, he knew exactly what kind of operation it would be. No vague estimates. No disappearing act. Every customer gets a written price before any work starts, and every job is covered by The Kingswell Guarantee.

So the branch didn’t open with a marketing blitz. It opened with a promise. Greg’s name went on the side of the trucks, and that meant his word went into every job. That’s how we still operate in Austin.

Greg Holloway’s Personal Connection to the Roofing Trade

Greg didn’t grow up dreaming about roofing. He grew up around people who worked with their hands, the kind of tradesmen who didn’t talk much but whose work you could measure at the end of the day. The first roof he ever walked wasn’t a job, it was a favor. An older homeowner in a neighborhood outside Round Rock had been told by a company that the entire roof needed replacing. The quote was enormous, and the homeowner couldn’t afford it. Greg went up to look. The actual problem was one section of flashing and a handful of worn shingles, nothing more. That moment stuck with him harder than any paycheck. The roof wasn’t failing. The honesty was.

He started learning the trade the old way, by carrying materials and watching closely. He learned to read a roof the way you read a person’s face: the sag in the decking, the granule loss on a shingle, the telltale stain around a vent boot. Summer in Austin taught him heat won’t just wear you down, it’ll bake a roof into brittleness. Hail season taught him that damage isn’t always obvious from the ground. Over the years, he moved from crew work to running jobs, then to measuring and estimating. He’s spent 26 years in this trade, and the part that still gets him out of bed isn’t the technical side. It’s the moment a homeowner stops worrying. That exhale when someone says, here’s the real problem, and here’s the price, and it’s not going to change. If he weren’t doing this, he’d probably still be fixing things, just on his own house and his neighbors’ houses. He can’t walk past a loose shingle without looking twice.

Meet Greg Holloway – The Person Behind Every Job

Greg Holloway is the Owner and Founder of the Austin branch of Tilehurst Roofing. He’s spent his entire career in roofing, starting as a laborer and working his way through every role on a crew before taking the lead on estimates and quality. He’s the person who trains the local team, walks the roofs in Pflugerville and Leander and Buda, and signs off on the work before we call a job done.

What separates Greg from a corporate franchise technician is simple: he lives here. He knows that the clay soil in this part of Texas shifts and that the sun on a west-facing slope ages shingles faster than an east-facing one. He knows which neighborhoods in Wells Branch tend to get hail damage that insurance adjusters miss. When you hire this Austin branch, you’re hiring a person who has walked thousands of local roofs, not a rotating cast of strangers.

Outside of work, Greg is a builder by nature. If he’s not on a roof, he’s usually in a workshop, fixing something that most people would have thrown away. There’s a stubbornness in that, and it’s the same stubbornness he brings to every job. He won’t walk away from a roof until it’s right. That’s not a slogan. It’s just how he’s wired.

Our Promise to Austin Homeowners

We work to a set of promises that every Tilehurst Roofing location shares. They’re called The Kingswell Way, and they’re not posted on a wall for decoration. They’re the rules every job follows.

  • Say the price before the work. You get a written estimate before anyone sets foot on your roof. The number on that page is the number you pay.
  • Show up in the window we gave. We give a real arrival window, and we honor it.
  • Leave the place cleaner than we found it. Nails, debris, old material, all of it goes with us.
  • Put the guarantee in writing. Every job is covered by The Kingswell Guarantee. If a repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.
  • Come back if it fails. The guarantee isn’t a piece of paper. It’s a promise we intend to keep.

We didn’t invent these to sound good. We agreed to them when we brought Tilehurst Roofing to Austin, because Greg wouldn’t put his name on anything less.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed. Every pro working under our name is required to hold the license their state requires. That’s non-negotiable. When someone works on your roof, you should know they’re legal and accountable.
  • Insured and bonded. We carry insurance and bonding because working on a home without them puts the homeowner at risk. If something goes wrong, you’re protected.
  • Local experience measured in decades. Greg has spent his entire adult life in this trade, and he’s been leading this Austin branch since 2000. That’s not a corporate talking point. It means we’ve seen how Austin roofs age, fail, and get repaired, year after year.
  • A reputation built roof by roof. We’ve earned the trust of homeowners from Round Rock to Shady Hollow the slow way: by doing the work right and coming back when something needed attention.

Why do these matter to you? Because the person on your roof is working above the place where your family sleeps. Licensing means they meet the bar. Insurance means you’re not liable for their mistakes. Local experience means they know what Austin weather actually does to a roof, not what a textbook says it does.

Rooted in Austin

We work in the neighborhoods you actually live in. Leander on a hot afternoon, Lost Creek where the tree cover hides roof damage until it’s serious, Hornsby Bend where the wind off the open land hits harder than people expect, Taylor and Buda and the streets around Wells Branch. We know these places because Greg has been driving them for 26 years.

Tilehurst is an English village name that starts with the tile, the oldest way to keep weather out. That’s the idea behind the brand. But here in Austin, it means something simpler. It means a neighbor who answers the phone, gives you a straight price, and stands behind the work.
