Atlas Roof Replacement in Austin: What to Know First
Atlas roof replacement in Austin typically runs $11,500 to $19,800 for a standard single-family home, with most jobs completed in 2 to 4 days once materials land. We are an independent Atlas service provider, not a factory arm, so we tell you the honest number before any work starts and we stand behind the finished roof in writing. If you own an Atlas roof that’s failing or aging out, this page tells you what actually goes wrong, what replacement costs in the Austin market, and how we approach the job differently than a crew that just nails shingles and leaves. Call (254) 540-7345 for a free estimate.
How Atlas Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Atlas makes good roofing material. But every brand has weak points, and in Central Texas heat, those weak points show up faster than they do up north. Here’s what we see on Atlas roofs across Austin, from Rosedale to Round Rock, and what we do about it.
- Pinnacle Pristine shingle granule loss. The Pinnacle line uses a fiberglass mat with a heavier granule embed, but after 12 to 15 years of Austin UV exposure, we often see granule wash-off concentrated on south-facing slopes. You’ll find granules in the gutters every spring. The shingle isn’t necessarily dead, but if the mat is showing through in patches, replacement is the right call, not a patch job that buys you one season.
- StormMaster Shake curling at the eaves. Atlas’s StormMaster Shake is a heavier architectural shingle rated for impact, but it’s still asphalt. When attic ventilation is undersized, heat builds up and the shingle edges curl at the overhang. We see this in older Hyde Park and Crestview homes where original ridge vents never got balanced. The fix is a full tear-off, new decking inspection, and proper intake ventilation before the new Atlas product goes down.
- GlassMaster sealant strip failure on low slopes. Atlas GlassMaster is common on Austin garage roofs and patio covers with lower pitch. The self-seal strip on any asphalt shingle brand struggles under 3:12 pitch in 105-degree heat. Water wicks under the shingle tabs and finds the nail line. When we replace, we switch those low-slope sections to a modified bitumen or standing seam, then tie the Atlas shingles in cleanly at the transitions.
- Decking rot under Atlas shingles after wind-driven rain. This one isn’t an Atlas defect; it’s a Central Texas reality. Spring storm cells push rain sideways, and once water gets past the underlayment, OSB decking swells and rots. By the time you see a ceiling stain in Tarrytown or Barton Hills, the decking under the Atlas shingles is already compromised. We replace the rotted decking sections, not just the shingles on top.
- Flashing failures at Atlas roof-to-wall and chimney transitions. No shingle brand survives bad flashing. On older Austin homes with Atlas roofs, we find step flashing that was nailed to the wall instead of the deck, or counterflashing cut too shallow. Water travels down the wall cavity and rots the rafter tails. Our replacement process always includes new flashing, properly lapped and sealed, before the first Atlas shingle goes on.

Our Atlas Roof Replacement Process
Here’s how a full Atlas replacement goes when you call us in Austin, step by step, so there are no surprises once the crew is on site.
- 1
Call and walkthrough. You call (254) 540-7345. A live person answers. We schedule a time that works, and Greg Holloway or one of our senior techs walks the roof with you, gutter to ridge.
- 2
Straight diagnosis and written price. We tell you what’s failing, what has to be replaced, and what can wait. The written line-item price is in your hand before we leave. That price does not change at the door, ever.
- 3
Material selection. We go over Atlas options plus the other manufacturers we carry: GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Tamko, and Boral. The product fits your house and your budget, not whatever is sitting in our yard.
- 4
Tear-off and decking inspection. We strip the old roof, inspect every sheet of decking, and replace rotted or delaminated sections. We don’t shingle over bad wood.
- 5
Underlayment, flashing, drip edge, shingles, ridge cap. New synthetic underlayment goes down, new flashing at every penetration and transition, new drip edge at the eaves and rakes, then the Atlas shingles and a properly vented ridge cap. Each of those parts does a job: the underlayment is the waterproof layer under the shingles, the flashing keeps water out of the joints, the drip edge moves water into the gutter instead of behind it, and the ridge cap seals the peak where two slopes meet.
- 6
Cleanup and written guarantee. We magnet-sweep for nails, haul everything, and leave your property cleaner than we found it. Before the crew leaves, you get the written guarantee in hand, not mailed later.

AfterWhat Atlas Roof Replacement Costs in Austin
Real numbers, so you know what to expect before you pick up the phone. For a typical single-story Austin home around 1,800 to 2,400 square feet, a full Atlas architectural shingle replacement runs $11,500 to $16,200 depending on decking condition, pitch, and the specific Atlas line. Two-story homes or steep roofs push that to $14,000 to $19,800. If decking replacement is needed across large sections, add roughly $2.50 to $4.00 per square foot of replaced decking. The variables that move price most in Austin are roof pitch, how many layers need tearing off, decking surprises under the old shingles, and whether you switch from asphalt to standing seam on low-slope sections. We give you a fixed written number before any work starts, and it holds. Call (254) 540-7345 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
Why Austin Homeowners Call Tilehurst Roofing Austin for Atlas Work
We’re a Kingswell family roofing company, founded in 2000, and every Tilehurst location operates under the Kingswell Guarantee. That means the same five commitments on every job, including Atlas replacements: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if it fails. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every Atlas roof we install for a full year after the job. If something isn’t right, we return and make it right at no charge. Our techs know Atlas products specifically, and because we also work with GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, IKO, Tamko, and Boral, we’ll tell you if another product fits your home better than Atlas. Background-checked, uniformed technicians on every job. A live person answers the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends. And Greg Holloway, who leads our Austin team, learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has been reading roofs quickly, accurately, and without drama ever since. His way of putting it: “Tell me the roof, I’ll tell you the price – no surprises once we’re up there.”
FAQs
No. Atlas warranties are tied to the product and proper installation, not to factory-employed installers. As an independent Atlas service provider in Austin, we install Atlas shingles to manufacturer spec, which keeps your warranty valid. We document the job so you have records if a claim ever comes up.
Most Atlas tear-off and replacement jobs in Austin take 2 to 4 days from first shingle removed to final cleanup, depending on roof size, pitch, and how much decking needs replacing. Weather delays happen, especially during spring storm season, but we give you a schedule in writing before we start. Call (254) 540-7345 for a timeline on your specific roof.
Sometimes, yes. If the damage is isolated, a repair makes sense and we tell you that honestly. But when granule loss is widespread, decking is rotted, or flashing has failed at multiple transitions, patching buys a season and then fails again. We show you the evidence either way before recommending work.
Most Atlas architectural shingle replacements in Austin land between $5.50 and $8.50 per square foot installed, including tear-off, underlayment, flashing, drip edge, ridge cap, and cleanup. The final number depends on roof complexity, decking condition, and which Atlas line you choose. Call (254) 540-7345 for a free line-item quote on your home.
Yes. When the City of Austin requires a permit for a roof replacement, we pull it and the job gets inspected. We never skip that step, and we never ask you to pull it yourself. If your neighborhood has additional requirements, we handle those too.
