IKO Shingle Repair: The Austin Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle repair in Austin typically runs $350 to $900 for a standard repair, depending on how many shingles have failed and whether the underlayment or decking underneath took water. Most IKO repairs we handle are completed in a single visit, since we keep IKO-compatible shingles and matching accessories on the truck. The most common way Austin homeowners discover a problem is a shingle in the yard after a storm, or a dark stain spreading across the ceiling after a hard rain. Sometimes it’s a slow leak that only shows up months later, when the Texas sun has already baked the failed shingle brittle and the wind finally peeled it back.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
This page covers the IKO architectural and three-tab shingle lines most common on Austin roofs: Cambridge, Dynasty, Nordic, and Marathon. The compatibility gotcha with IKO is that color lots vary noticeably between manufacturing runs, so a shingle bought off the shelf today won’t always match a roof installed three years ago. We handle that by pulling a sample from your roof and matching against current IKO stock before we quote. If you have a leftover bundle in the garage, that’s ideal. Otherwise, we work from the shingle dimensions and the manufacturer’s code printed on the back of the shingle, when it’s still legible. For IKO specifically, the OEM route is straightforward because IKO’s regional distribution through Austin suppliers has been reliable. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for accessories like ridge cap and hip shingles, but we steer customers toward genuine IKO field shingles whenever possible. The color consistency is better, and it keeps any future warranty discussions simpler. Tilehurst Roofing Austin is an independent roofing company, not an IKO dealer or affiliate, but we install and repair IKO products regularly alongside GAF, CertainTeed, and Owens Corning.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules collecting in gutters or at the downspout base. IKO shingles lose surface granules as the asphalt binder breaks down under Central Texas UV. Heavy granule loss means the shingle’s protective layer is nearly gone, and the fiberglass mat underneath is about to be exposed.
- Curling or lifting at the shingle corners. This happens when the shingle’s adhesive strip fails and Austin’s wind gets under the edge. Once a corner lifts, the next storm turns it into a full tear-out.
- Bare spots or dark patches where granules used to be. That dark area isn’t a stain, it’s the underlying asphalt oxidizing in the sun. It fails fast after that.
- Water stains on ceilings or walls beneath a specific valley or penetration. Shingle failures over a valley or near a pipe boot let water in at the exact spot where two roof planes meet or where a vent exits.
- Shingles found in the yard after wind. A shingle that completely detached usually means the nail line was too high when the roof was installed, or the original nails rusted through. Either way, the surrounding shingles may be loose, too.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a small IKO shingle repair in Austin, expect $350 to $500. A larger section with decking replacement or underlayment work runs $600 to $900. The range depends on how many shingles need to come off, the roof pitch, whether we’re working around flashing or valleys, and how much rotted decking has to be cut out and replaced. Every quote we give is a written price before any work starts, and it includes the shingles, nails, underlayment patch, and labor. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and make it right at no charge under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. Greg Holloway’s rule is simple: “Tell me the roof, I’ll tell you the price – no surprises once we’re up there.”
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do yourself: check your gutters for granules, look at the roof from the ground with binoculars, and take a photo of any visible damage before you call. What usually goes wrong with DIY shingle repair: walking on a hot Austin roof without proper footwear, nailing through the wrong spot on the new shingle, using a nail gun set too high, and misjudging the adhesive strip. A shingle nailed too low or too high becomes a leak point within the first storm. Also, most homeowners don’t have fall protection, and a single wrong step on a 6:12 pitch can end badly. If you want to check things from the ground and send us photos, we’ll talk you through what you’re seeing. If the damage is visible from the ladder, just call (254) 540-7345 and we’ll take it from there.
FAQs
IKO architectural shingles typically last 15 to 18 years on Austin roofs, three-tab lines closer to 12 to 15. The heat and UV are the primary aging factor here, not rain. A roof that sees full afternoon sun on the west-facing slope will wear faster than the shaded north side.
A single cracked or torn IKO shingle can be repaired by sliding in a matching replacement shingle if the surrounding ones are in good shape. But if the seal strip has failed across a section, or the shingles around the damage are already brittle, a section replacement is the more honest fix. We’ll tell you which one you actually need and why, before we quote it.
Most IKO shingle repairs take 1 to 3 hours on site from setup to cleanup. If decking replacement is involved, add an hour or two. We leave the work area cleaner than we found it, including a magnet sweep for old nails.
We stock the most common IKO Cambridge and Dynasty colorways on the truck and can typically match the rest through our Austin suppliers same day. If your color is discontinued, we’ll show you the closest current IKO match and get your written approval before ordering.
If you’ve got a failed IKO shingle or you’re not sure whether that stain on the ceiling is from the roof, call Tilehurst Roofing Austin at (254) 540-7345 for a free estimate. We’ll put the number in writing before any work starts, and the repair carries our written guarantee.
